Some Questions
I have no yet bought the game, I was just going to get the trilogy for ease, its not that much $$ anyways. but theres a few things Im having difficulty understanding.
1. I Would like to make a female necromancer...for appearance and what they can do, but I would also like to use a sword and have a pet. is this even possible? if I have a necro/ranger can I get a pet and use it like rangers do? and can I use swords? or can I then have no melee combat at all? its a little confusing. 2. I have only played on the trial, I was sucked in by a friend and she and I partied up and ran around a bit, We completed a quest...but She couldnt get the quest while I had it and then when we completed it I got a reward and then suddenly she had the quest active. whats the point of co-op if we have to do every quest twice?? Its very possible we missunderstand, as we are noobs, I have had trouble finding any information to help us. 3. do nightfall, factions or eye of the north add any appearance options to character creation? I read that they do...if I use these what does my character look like to people who only have 1 game? This is confusing me. or do they only add options to the professions that they add to the game? Im sure I will have more questions, Im going to be buying the game tonight, but these are the most pressing ones. Thanks |

Someone will probably beat me to answering these, but anyway.
1. If you have a Necro/Ranger then yes, you'd be able to use Ranger skills and have a pet, if you wanted. And you could be a sword-wielding Necro. You wouldn't have access to Warrior skills, though, and thus you wouldn't be as effective using a sword as a Warrior would be. But a lot of casters go for swords because of the mods that can be added to them. As a Necromancer you would likely be casting spells the majority of the time anyway. 2. That is...kind of odd. I'm not really sure there. Maybe it had to do with the fact that you were using the trial key? I've never had anything like that happen myself. 3. Factions and Nightfall add more appearance options to character creation, but only for starting in that campaign. Eye of the North is an expansion that's meant to be played with a pre-existing character. And if you, say, make a Nightfall character, go to Prophecies, and play with a person who only has Prophecies, your character will look the same as it always did. When you download/install the game, you're actually downloading all of the content. By buying the games, you're purchasing access to the content in the other campaigns. Hope that helps! |

Thanks! that helps alot. So my sword using/thriller dancing/necro/ranger/wolf commanding dreams are not crushed!
I dont want to have to make the character over again and again to get her to look the way I want, and I'd like to create her using all the options possible the first time... Do I then need to start in nightfall to get the most options and then somehow get to where my friend who has prop is to play with her...in ascalon city... I plan on playing the whole game (all cam's and exp) with the same character, so I only want to create her once...but then I have to play prop first as thats the game my friend has... Or...can I not do that...Do you have to create a new character for each cam that you do? will I have to create a character for each one? Each campaign has it's own looks on creation for say ur necro.
So whether you start in proph or nf you will get different appearance options. Choose whichever campaign is more convenient (sounds like proph if your friend is there) then choose from the appearance options you get. If you really really don't like any of the looks in proph then try nf or factions and see if you like them.... then just work through the beginner islands to proph where your friend is |

1. Yes you can do necro/ranger and have a pet. You will be unable to use sword to its full benefit, but yes can wield a sword for appearance and other small bonuses/applications. The sword in general is meant for a warrior to get its full use.....or using a the warrior as a secondary (i.e. necro/warrior). Essentially you still wont be able to get maximum benefit out of a sword using necro/warrior. The more and more you play, you'll see what you can do with a necro in general without relying so much on something specific like having a pet. It comes down to what makes sense/works well always trumps what would be "cool" to do. If you are just starting the game out and you are getting the trilogy, keep things simple...get used to all the skills that come your way.....do some reading on this site for builds that make sense....look for how certain skills help other skills and so on.
2. Probably what happened is you originially had the quest but your friend didnt. Then when you went to accept the reward, you were the only one to benefit. If you are both doing a certain quest, just make sure you both have it active in your quest screen. 3. Each game (minus eye of the north..its just an add on) allows you to create different looking chars. Certain character classes can only be created in their respective games/content. I.E. Pve assassin can only be created in the Factions content. Core classes can be started in any of the game content...prophecies/factions/nightfall. The core classes are warrior/ranger/necromancer/mesmer/monk/elementalist. When starting these classes there are specific skills you will only be able to obtain through the content you started in. So.. Factions offers some different skills as you go through the game as a warrior..over what prophecies does. But if you buy the trilogy, you'll be able to spend time working through all campaigns opening yourself up to all of the skills each one has to offer.. GL and HF |

maybe it should be added, going N/R will most likely get you nowhere as there isn't much you can do like that, there will be 1 or 2 builds, but not posted anywhere so you will have to find em out yourself.

Im not very worried about 'what will be the best' I dont need to be the strongest or anything like that, I am playing only for kicks and giggles. I want the pet cause its funny, and it will make my adventures more fun. I will have more fun if I dont 'study' so much and try to make a 'kick ass' character. I appreciate all the help though. This is purely for fun.
also for the quest thing, I got the quest while we were partied and then she went to get it and then it wouldnt give it to her...dunno. ...maybe I should point out that I'm female...that might explain my point of view a little better...Im picking the necro cause she has a sweet skin shade and does the dance from thriller =) I have alot of other games to be more 'serious' in, this one is just for fun. No Eye Of The North doesn't allow you to create characters....
I really didnt like the looks very much in proph...so it is possible for me to start in nf and then get to where my friend is and play proph first even though I didnt start there? is there a downside to this? You can't... as I said you play through nightfall's beginner island, then travel over to prophecies and depending where your friend is in proph, play through some of the campaign. Extra: if your friend was to wait for you at the start of prophecies (i.e. Ascalon city) then you would have to travel back through 1/3 of the campaign as characters from nf/factions appear in Lions Arch when going to prophecies which is about 1/3 of the way through..... or get a run from someone back to Ascalon |

Also you may want to look at the wiki, it gives all the info u could ever need... well almost... and even experienced pros use it every time they play. If ya need a hand or some advice send me a whisper in game I'll see what I can do |

For starting out I would go into Nightfall, you get heros to help you out, which you don't get in Proph. Does not take long at all to be able to jump over to proph and from there even to EOTN.

I started in Nightfall and I'd recommend it too. I'm playing the first game now and I don't like it as much. |

You could start with Nightfall; you can move your characters to the other campaigns you own after a certain point and it's very easy and fast to do so from Nightfall and Factions. You just wouldn't be able to play with your friend while you're in Nightfall until you go to Prophecies, and you'd have to backtrack in Prophecies in order to do the early missions. But even if you did want or need help doing the early Nightfall stuff, there's generally plenty of people around and on that would be able to help you out with quests.
Personally, I don't care for Prophecies early on that much; I'm using my Dervish (who is my Nightfall character, obviously) to play through Prophecies. |

You can start in NF and later travel to Prophecies, but you will not be able to play Prophecies first. You can't travel to the other campaigns until you've made a certain amount of progress in Nightfall, nearly completing the newbie island. Also, if your friend is in the newbie area of Prophecies (known as "pre searing"), you will not be able to join your friend until he/she leaves that area.

About the quest thingy,
maybe this is what happened = you for some reason accepted the quest before you friend did, so accidently you had it your quest log and she didn't. Then you two partied for your quest (= will call it like that atm) and finished it, for the reward you had to go back to the questgiver, but now you friend came around that questgiver for the first time and it logical she could only accept the quest and redo it since for the games she didn't do that quest yet only you had. There for, before co-op on quest you best check if you both have the quest in your objectives list! Remember too that some quest are actually also follow-up on previous quest you've done that could also make it impossible for another to get the later quest if the previous ones haven't been finished yet on other chars you accompany you (even you might not be able to finish them since you co-op partner is not far enough on the sequence). I hope this get a bit clearer, but its hard to explain (=I'm a non primary English speaker too) |

So for every quest I want to complete partied with someone, we both have to seperatly have the quest before partying? That seems wierd...
This is exactly what happened, I met her in ascalon city, we partied...we ran around and came across this necromancer neither of us had seen before. I talked to her and acepted a quest to put some candles in some places, then my friend tried to do the same so we could be working on the same quest but she said she could not get it and maybe I was the 'quest holder' and it counts for everyone in party if 1 of us has it, so we did the quest, then i went back to the necro and i got my reward, then the quest appeared as my partners active quest or appeared for her to accept (what she said was "now it says im supposed to do it") Of course, We will try again maybe it will go fine. They should have made co-op like in diablo II =( and if it is like diablo II someone tell me because then I will understand and feel better about the money I just spent. Thanks |

It will trigger if either one of you has it. So if one person in the party has a quest that causes a particular boss to spawn, that boss will spawn, even if all the other seven don't have it. You won't get the reward if you don't have the quest active, though, unless you count things like xp from killing a quest spawn.
(Similarly, in one of the Eye of the North dungeons known as Slaver's Exile, you couldn't actually fight the final boss unless you'd killed all four of his underlings. They wouldn't let you into the dungeon unless everyone in the party had killed all four underlings: just one person not fulfilling that requirement would result in the door to the boss staying very resolutely locked.) I'm not quite sure what happened to you because I'm assuming you're playing in presear and I have very little memory of what goes on in there (my latest characters have all been Factions/Nightfall). Usually, however, it's a good idea to make sure you're all on the same page: ask each other if they've taken the quest from the respective NPC, etc. Sometimes quests come in chains - you have to do Quest A and get the reward for it before you can do Quest B, so you should make sure everyone in your party's done both. This applies for everything - I once had to redo a particularly pesky quest because I forgot to grab it from the NPC and my boyfriend didn't remind me. XD Also, I doubt this is the case for your current situation, but certain quests are profession-specific. Prophecies have quests which reward you with skills for your chosen professions, and they can come from different quest NPCs. So one of them might not give a character a quest unless s/he's, say, an Elementalist. And you can grab the quests during or before partying - some quest NPCs are in explorable areas - as long as you both get it before running off for glory, honour, and loot. (Ah, tell you what. Forum posts get a bit long. If you want to drop questions on me ingame, add Iluryl Averne to your friendlist and poke me. I'll try my best to answer. I joined after Factions came out and it was pretty overwhelming for me then, much less now, considering you've got NF and Eye of the North as well!) |
